B.A. Riddle at the I.O. Hill Funeral Home Sunday at 4 p.m. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. A retired Virginian Railway engineer, Turner was a past commander of Purple Heart Chapter 36, Chapter 5 of the Disabled American Veterans and member of the Burrows Memorial Baptist Church, Norfolk. ****************************************************************************** Suffolk, June 6 - Funeral services for Walter Tony Turner were conducted this afternoon at the Hill Funeral Home by Rev. B.A. Riddle. Pallbearers were Edward Turner, Elton Stephenson, Lloyd Duck, Ryland Duck, Ollie Turner, Ervin Walker, John Clarke, Bernard Langford. Burial with military honors, took place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. A firing squad from the Suffolk National Guard unit gave the salute and Billy Burkette sounded taps. ****************************************************************************** Military Burial For W. T. Turner Funeral services for Walter Tony Turner, who died Thursday afternoon at his home near Lake Prince, were conducted yesterday afternoon at the Hill Funeral Home by the Rev. B.A. Riddle. The choir from the Colosse Baptist Church, accompanied by Mrs. Julian Goodwin, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. John Avis and Melvin Spivey sang as a duet, "Life's Railway To Heaven." The casket was covered with an American flag, which was later replaced with a pall of red roses and white carnations. Pallbearers were Edward Turner, Elton Stephenson, Lloyd Duck, Ryland Duck, Ollie Turner, Ervin Walker, John Clarke and Bernard Lankford. Burial with military honors took place in Cedar Hill Cemetery. A firing squad from the Suffolk National Guard Unit gave the salute and Billy Burkette sounded taps. The graveside services were conducted by Joseph Sterling, chaplain of Norfolk Chapter No. 4, Disabled Veterans of America, assisted by members of the Suffolk DAV chapter. Mr. Turner was credited with organizing the Norfolk DAV chapter and with assisting in the organization of the Suffolk unit.
