Dewey Dillard, of 260 Holladay Street, who saw Uzzell immediately prior to the incident, told investigating officers that the victim left the East Washington Street grade crossing of the railroad and was walking parallel to the main line over which the train was passing at the time. Dillard said he next heard Uzzell scream, and he ran to a point approximately 70 feet west of the crossing where he found his body. Police Chief L.B. Butler said this morning that circumstances revealed through investigation of the fatality indicate Uzzell fell or stumbled into the side of the moving train. Investigation was completed by Special Investigator H.W. Churn who identified the train as a "local freight," Number 67, bound for Crewe. C.B. Saunders, and H.R. Kramer, both of Crewe, were engineer and conductor respectively of the train involved. Dr. E.C. Joyner, city coroner, viewed the body this morning, and ordered its removal to the I.O. Hill Funeral Home pending notification of the family. The body was removed later this morning to the Purvis Funeral Home at Zuni to await funeral arrangements. Dr. Joyner said later this morning that the victim suffered multiple lacerations but that severe head injuries are attributed as the cause of his death. ****************************************************************************** Jesse Albin Uzzle [sic; Alvin Uzzell], 37, Buried Feb. 13th At Zuni, Va.
