VAUGHN [sic; VAUGHAN*] John S. Vaughn, 69, of Windsor and Suffolk, prominent jeweler and optometrist in Suffolk for the past 30 years, died at Suffolk hospital Friday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock after a short illness. Mr. Vaughn was the son of the late James F. and Mary E. Vaughn, of Isle of Wight County. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Effie L. Vaughn, of Windsor; two daughters, Mrs. R.A. Daughtrey, of Myrtle and Mrs. C.E. Graham of Portsmouth; two sons, Marion P. Vaughn of Newport News, and J. Shelton Vaughn of Suffolk and Windsor; one brother, William Vaughn, of Isle of Wight County; three half-sisters: Mrs. J.A. Spivey, of Isle of Wight County; Mrs. Judson Bailey, of Suffolk, and Mrs. R.A. Parker of Norfolk; one half-brother, J. Hardy Vaughan, of Isle of Wight County; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The body was taken to the funeral home of I.O. Hill and Co., where funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Services were conducted by the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield and the Rev. W.V. Carroll. Interment was in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suffolk. Mrs. Archie Smither, accompanied by Grigg Fountain, sang "Haven of Rest", a quartet composed of Miss Christine Baines, Mrs. Smither, James C. Moore and James T. Harrell, sang "In the Garden". The casket was covered with a pall of Ascension lillies, pink roses and stevia. Active pallbearers were C.E. King, E.C. Horton, J.B. Rooke, J.V. Powell, Dr. Archie Smither, M. Anderson Maxey, Shirley T. Holland.
