FUNERAL THURSDAY FOR JOSHUA C. WEST, JR. Funeral services for Joshua Cottingham West, Jr., 70, who died last night at his home, 603 North Broad Street, will be held tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock at Oxford Methodist Church. Mr. West for many years was a leader in civic, business and religious activities in Suffolk. He was the last living charter member of Oxford Church. He was the son of the late J.C. West, Sr., and Mrs. Sarah Reed West of Millford, Delaware. Mr. West’s death follows by less than a year that of his son, J.C. West, III, former mayor of Suffolk. His son died March 31, 1950. OPERATED OVERALL PLANT Until his retirement about three years ago, he was president and owner of the Suffolk Overall Company. He was a charter member of the Oxford Methodist Church and a member of the Board of Stewards, superintendent of the Sunday School and a member of the church choir since its organization about 40 years ago. Mr. West was a charter member of the Suffolk Rotary Club; chairman of the Suffolk School Board for about 20 years and a lay leader of the Portsmouth- Newport News District of the Methodist Conference. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. J.C. West, Jr.; three daughters, Mrs. Hall F. Birdsong, Mrs. Henry Crocker and Mrs. William H. Reid, all of Suffolk; 10 grandchildren; a brother, John T. West, of Morgate, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Kendall Hocker, of Millville, Del.; and several nieces and nephews, among whom are Miss Reed West, of Suffolk, and M/Sgt. Herbert West, of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. The body was taken to the R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home, and tomorrow at 11 a.m. will be taken to the Oxford Methodist Church for funeral services by the Rev. J.S. Gresham, pastor. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family has requested that flowers be omitted. Honorary pall bearers will be members of the official board of Oxford Methodist Church and members of the Suffolk Rotary Club.
