White, 20, of Eclipse accidently killed herself at her home there Wednesday afternoon, December 4th, when an automatic pistol she was handling went off and the bullet pierced her heart and lungs. She was rushed to a doctor at Chuckatuck but died before she could be given medical aid. According to a version of the accident related to Dr. Richardson Joyner, county coroner, Mrs. White had discovered the pistol in cleaning out her husband's automobile. She was showing it to him and suggesting that he leave it at home when she accidentally fired it. The former Ruby Sreves, Mrs. White was a native of Nansemond county. She lived in Norfolk a number of years before moving to Eclipse. Besides her husband, she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.W. Sreves of Hilton Village; four sister, Mrs. Rosa Lewis and Mrs. Myrtle Nelms of Eclipse, Mrs. Edith May Meyers, and Miss Wilda Sreves of Hilton Village; three brothers, Allen and Littleton Sreves of Hilton Village and Floyd Sreves of Portlock, Va., and her maternal grandfather, A. Sreves of Westhaven, Va., and a number of nieces and nephews. ****************************************************************************** RUBY WHITE Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby White were held yesterday at 3 o’clock at Mount Zion Christian Church conducted by the Rev. J.H. Warren, pastor, the Rev. N.F. Hunt and Dr. I.W. Johnson. The church choir, accompanied by Mrs. George Dixon, sang "The Last Mile," "Safe In The Arms of Jesus" and "God Be With Us Till We Meet Again." A pall of ascension lilies and red roses covered the casket. Active pallbearers were Adolphus Daniels, Bernice Mathews, R.I. Fulgham, Elmer Wright, George Dixon, Raymond Dixon, Bruce Keeling, and Clarence Mathews. Interment was in the church cemetery. Her maternal grandparents, George Franklin & Rosa Ann (WARD) DIXON, are buried in Newman Memorial Cemetery, Oakland Christian Church Cemetery, Chuckatuck. House carpenter "Shadrack" & Julia appear with 1 son & 3 daughters in the 1920 Census in Chuckatuck Dist., owning a farm on Blink Horn Point in Barretts Neck. Navy yard shipwright Sherman, 27, & Ruby Lee, 24, appear in the 1940 Census in Chuckatuck Dist., owning a house on the "Main Road leading from Crittenden onto part of Eclipse called Possum Hollow." Several records give SHREVES, SHREAVES, &c. Divorced, her widower (1912-1992) 3m. divorcee Thelma Reese (BROWN) AYCOCK, 17 Mar 1951 in Hampton (Elizabeth City Co. #90); they are buried in Groton Cemetery, Onancock, Accomack Co.
