Whitley Dies of Hurts In Auto Accident Mrs. Willie Etta Blanchard Whitley, 33, of Suffolk died at DePaul Hospital September 1st of injuries sustained in a highway accident near Suffolk Friday night, in the first casualty reported over the Labor Day weekend. Mrs. Whitley was driving on the Windsor highway about 11:30 PM when her car was in collision with an automobile driven by Zach Copeland, Negro, who was returning to Suffolk from a road house on the Windsor highway, State Police reported. Copeland and Ruth Pleasants, Negro, and David Mason, Negro, both passengers in the Copeland car, also were severely injured and were confined to the Suffolk Community Hospital. Mrs. Whitley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Blanchard of Portsmouth, was an employee of the Peanut City Inn and was widely known among patrons of the establishment. Besides her parents she is survived by a son, Billy Whitley of Isle of Wight County; six sisters, Mrs. C.J. Warren of Whaleyville; Mrs. E.K. Ward and Mrs. J.L. Wood of Nansemond County; Mrs. L.P. Prescott of Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Edward Doughtie of Portsmouth and Mrs. J.T. Baggett of Nansemond County and two brothers, Leslie E. Blanchard of Edenton, N.C., and Murray R. Blanchard of Nansemond County. The body was taken to the I.O. Hill & Co. funeral home, where services were held with the Rev. J. Lester Lane, pastor of the First Baptist Church officiating.
