All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH WESLEY WHITMORE Joseph Wesley Whitmore, 82, of Nansemond, husband of Mrs. Helen Howell Whitmore, died May 4, in a Suffolk hospital. A native of Surry County, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Minnie Faison Whitmore and a member of the First Baptist Church of Suffolk and the Portsmouth Moose Lodge 898. In addition to his wife survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Paul J. Collette of Knoxville, Tenn., and Mrs. Kenneth Eley of Suffolk; four sons, Lt. Col. Wesley C. Whitmore of Columbus, Ohio, and Robert B. Frederick M. and Charles T. Whitmore of Nansemond; a stepdaughter, Mamie L. Clary of Richmond; three stepsons, Corbel Claud of Charlotte, N.C., Leslie Claude of Courtland and Sedrick Claud of Richmond; four sisters, Mrs. Edna Slade, Mrs. Hilda Glazebrook of Newport News, and Mrs. Russell Clark of Florida and Mrs. Lillian Conway of Hopewell; one brother, Everett O. Whitmore of Jarratt; and nine grandchildren. The funeral was conducted May 6 at the First Baptist Church of Suffolk by the Rev. Ralph Logan. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The Harrell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
