WOODWARD JR., EX-POSTMASTER, INSURANCE MAN SUFFOLK - Hersey Woodward, postmaster and a retired insurance man, died Sunday at 7 a.m. in Obici Memorial Hospital. Woodward was postmaster of Suffolk during the Hoover administration and was succeeded by Sam Stallings when Roosevelt was elected president. He was retired from Woodward and Elam Insurance Agency. A native of Suffolk, he was the husband of Mrs. Claudia Long Woodward and a son of Hersey Woodward Sr. and Mrs. Augusta Saunders Woodward. He was a member of Suffolk Christian Church and formerly taught its Baraca Bible Class, a past master of Suffolk Masonic Lodge 30 and its secretary more than 30 years. Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Sarah W. Tuohy of Norfolk; a son, Jacob L. Woodward, and a sister, Miss Marie Woodward, both of Suffolk; and three brothers, Richard L. Woodward Jr. and Thomas L. Woodward of Suffolk and James S. Woodward of Hampton. A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Robert B. Marr. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The body will be taken from R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home to the church at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
