   JAMES VANN WOODARD 

  Funeral services for James Vann Woodward, 77, who died at his home in 
Nansemond County at 6:20 p.m. yesterday after a long illness, will be held at 
2:30 p.m. tomorow at Liberty Spring Christian Church, conducted by Dr. I.W. 
Johnson and the Rev. R.E. Brittle.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

  The body will be taken from the funeral home of I.O. Hill & Company to the 
late residence at 10 a.m. tomorrow. 

  Mr. Woodard is survived by one daughter, Mrs. H.A. Oliver; one son, Henry 
Woodward; one granddaughter. Miss Marie Oliver, and two sisters, Mrs. C.C. 
Skinner and Mrs. J.R. Johnson, all of the county; four half-sisters, Mrs. J.T. 
Duke of Newport News, Mrs. J.E. Duffee and Mrs. Preston Bingham of Norfolk and 
Miss Annie Woodward of the county; one half-brother, A.J. Woodward of the 
county, and a number of nieces and nephews.

D.Cert. 29592 (Holy Neck Dist.) gives b. Halifax Co., NC, son of Van Buren & 
   Barbara WOODARD. 

His family appeared in the 1880 Census in Jerusalem Dist., Southampton Co.
