Arthur Woolford, active vice-president of the National Bank of Suffolk, died instantly from a sudden heart attack at 9:15 this morning, while sitting at his desk talking to J.C. Ramsey, local manufacturer. A quarter-hour earlier Mr. Woolford had entered the bank, and after greeting employees with his usual "good morning," had chided H.T. Jackson, cashier, about an article in the morning paper. Mr. Ramsey was waiting to confer with him and while they were talking, Mr. Woolford suddenly sat back in his chair and closed his eyes. He was dead. Dr. L.W. White, who has offices in the bank building, was summoned but found the body lifeless upon his arrival. Mr. Ramsey told bank officers that Mr. Woolford had remarked a few moments before the attack that he didn't "feel very well." He had been up during the night attending to freezing water pipes in his home, it was said. Mr. Woolford was 64 years of age. A native of Maryland, he came to Suffolk as a young man forty years ago. Upon the organization of the National Bank of Suffolk four years later, he became the first cashier and held that office for 26 years, after which he was elected active vice-president ten years ago. Mr. Woolford was interested in a number of local businesses and was especially active in the Masonic Order. He is a past master of Suffolk Lodge 30, A.F. and A.M., a member of Mt. Nebo Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and is a past district deputy grand master. Surviving Mr. Woolford are three sons and two daughters, Austin Withers Woolford, of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Miss Nancy P. Woolford, of New York; Arthur T. Woolford, of Suffolk; J.R. Woolford, of Montclair, N.J.; and Mrs. Micheaux Raine, of Richmond; also a brother, Sam Woolford of Ocean View. Funeral arrangements will not be completed until the arrival here of members of the family. The body was removed from the bank to the funeral establishment of I.O. Hill and Company. ****************************************************************************** ARTHUR WOOLFORD FUNERAL SERVICES TUESDAY AFTERNOON ALL OF CHILDREN TO BE PRESENT, SON FLYING HOME FROM NEW MEXICO Suffolk, Dec. 31 - Funeral services for Arthur Woolford, prominent Suffolk banker and citizen, who died suddenly at his desk in the National Bank of Suffolk Saturday morning in his sixty-fourth year, will be conducted at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Tuesday afternoon, January 2, at 3 o’clock by the rector, the Rev.
