BESSIE THRIFT WALTON Mrs. Bessie Thrift Walton, 81, widow of George B. Walton, died this morning at her home in Cedar street. She was a member of the Suffolk Presbyterian church for the past 47 years. Before her illness, which resulted from an automobile accident several years ago, in which Mr. Walton lost his life, she was active in the church work and organizations. Mrs. Walton was a native of Dinwiddie county, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Thrift. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. W.W. Anderson of Petersburg; the following nieces and nephews: Evans Jones, of Suffolk; Nelson and Garland Anderson of Petersburg; Mrs. John Harris, Misses Biddie and Lola Nicholas and Charles Nicholas, Mrs. Blanche Stone and William Thrift of Richmond; Willie and David Thrift of Nettleton, Miss.; several great nephews and nieces and several great- great nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence on Cedar street. The Rev. Carl B. Craig, pastor of the Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. Bessie S. (THRIFT*; Mr. George B.) Her parents, Jacob L. & Arianna (EVANS) THRIFT, m. 9 Jan 1851 in Dinwiddie Co. D.Cert. 16725 (Suffolk #250) gives daughter of Jake & Areana (EVANS) SHRIFT. Her husband (1846 - 1929) was supposedly a Confederate veteran, and was a member of the Tom Smith Camp, UCV, although he was a native of NH and living there in 1860.
