Williams, in the county after a short illness. She was the widow of Joseph T. Williams, Sr., and the daughter of the late Robert J. and Elizabeth Pruden Barlette [sic; Bartlett], of Nansemond County. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J.C. Webb and Mrs. Marvin Whitley, of Suffolk; three sons, Thomas A. Williams, J.T. Williams, Jr., of the county, and Hatcher W. Williams, of Smithfield; a brother, L.W. Barlette [sic; Bartlett], of Norfolk; 23 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church. The body was taken to the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. ****************************************************************************** RITES SUNDAY FOR MATTIE WILLIAMS Burial Will Be At Bethlehem SUFFOLK, April 14. - Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Barlett Williams, member of a prominent Nansemond County family and widow of Joseph T. Williams, will be conducted at 3:30 Sunday afternoon at the R.W. Baker and Co. Funeral Home by Dr. John G. Truitt, pastor of the Suffolk Christian Church and Rev. R.E. Brittle. Burial will he in the Bethlehem Church Cemetery. She was a member of the Suffolk Christian Church, a member of the Ladies' Benevolent Society and the Missionary Society of the church. The name of one of her daughters, Mrs. Harry Lee Cross, of Suffolk, was inadvertently omitted from the news account of her death. Active pallbearers will be Joel Williams, Wendell Williams, Charles Williams, USNR, Bernard Williams, Calhoun Webb, USNR, R.M. Nelms, Joshua Pretlow and Ray Duke. He remarried twice after the death of Elizabeth in 1891. D.Cert. 8786 (Chuckatuck #116) gives her maiden name as BARLETTE.
