WELLONS' FUNERAL. - The remains of Mrs. W.B. Wellons, who died in Washington, were brought to Suffolk yesterday on the Norfolk and Carolina road and taken immediately to the Christian Church. The funeral took place from that church at 3:30 o'clock. Dr. W.W. Staley officiated and delivered a very appropriate discourse, following which the body was taken to Willow Hill Cemetery for interment, the following pall-bearers acting: J.T. Carr, J.T. Nurney, Tony Artman, W.H. Jones, Jr., William Eley and E.E. Holland. The only honorary pall-bearers present were Mr. R.L. Brewer, Sr., and Mr. J.R. Norfleet. The deceased was the widow of Rev. W.B. Wellons, D.D., formerly one of the most prominent men in Suffolk. He founded the Christian Church at this place, the Suffolk Collegiate Institute and was editor of the Christian Sun, once published here, but afterwards transferred to Raleigh, N.C. She was 70 years of age. One daughter survives - Mrs. F.A. Brewer, of Georgetown, D.C. Mrs. Brewer, with her two sons, Wellons and Louis Hines, attended the obsequies. Thirteen others were moved by R.W. Baker from Willow Hill to Cedar Hill, "a burial place which is better cared for," Apr 1900, and it was suggested others might follow "after a while."
