Wright on Sunday was stricken with paralysis and his condition now is serious. It was about 3 o'clock in the morning when the stroke came paralyzing the entire left side. Major Wright got out of bed and was able to get back without assistance. His brother, Dr. Wright of Churchland, is in attendance. Major Wright was in his usual health up to Saturday night. Major Wright formerly was treasurer of Suffolk captain of the Suffolk Grays and later a major in the Fourth Virginia regiment of militia. ****************************************************************************** MAJOR WRIGHT DIES OF PARALYSIS Former Treasurer Of The City And a Captain Of The Suffolk Grays. Suffolk, Va., Feb. 27. - Major Claude W. Wright, a well-known citizen died at 7:15 o'clock Sunday evening. He had been ill just a week with paralysis. He was stricken on the morning of Sunday, February 19. The stroke came on the left side and was only partial. It was regarded as hardly more than facial paralysis and his friends had hoped for recovery. Major Wright was conscious almost to the end. The funeral will take place at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the residence and the services will be conducted by Rev. Joseph B. Dunn, of St. Paul's P.E. church, who will be assisted by Rev. Dr. J.B. Taylor, of the Baptist church. The burial will be in Cedar Hill cemetery. The following brothers and close connections of the deceased will be pallbearers: John H. Wright, Dr. T.J. Wright, Frank Wright, Reginald Wright, Willie Wright, L.B. Allen, Norman Allen and Burwell Riddick. Major Wright formerly was treasurer of Suffolk, in which capacity he served for several years. For a longtime he was captain of the Suffolk Grays and later was a major of the Fourth Virginia regiment of militia. The deceased is survived by a widow, who was Miss Maggie Riddick; a daughter, Miss Mary Wright; a sister, Mrs. J.G. Chastain, now a missionary in Mexico; a brotner-in-law, L.B. Allen of Berkley, whose wife was a sister; and four brothers, Dr. T.J. Wright, of Churchland; Justice Frank Wright and Reginald Wright, of Nansemond county, and John H. Wright took place this afternoon from his residence in Franklin street. Quite a crowd of friends and relatives was in attendance. The floral offerings were pretty. The burial was in Cedar Hill cemetery. A list of the pall-bearers already has been printed in this paper.
