She leaves an aged husband and three daughters-in-law [sic; step-daughters]. She had been afflicted for several years, but bore her affliction with patience. She was a member of the Western Branch Baptist church. Her funeral took place at her late home, and the interment was at Bethlehem church. Rev. H.H. Butler conducted the service. ****************************************************************************** Mrs. Martha Wright, died Oct. 11, 1900, aged 83 years. She was a member of Western Branch Baptist church, and had been a Christian for 65 years. She was a great sufferer for 17 years. "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivered him out of them all." She leaves a husband and many friends and realatives. Funeral conducted by the writer, after which we laid her away in the cemetery at Bethlehem Christian church to await the resurrection morn. I.W. JOHNSON. She was the daughter of James & Nancy HOLLAND. The 1900 Census - Holy Neck Dist., Nansemond Co. - gives m. 35 years, 1 of 1 child surviving. Martha & Nathaniel m. 21 Sep 1865. His first wife "Sallie" Sarah E. (POWELL) WRIGHT d. 1 May 1865. The 1870 Census - Holy Neck Dist., Nansemond Co. - shows them with Sallie's three daughters - Texanna, Margaret & Mary. Her husband was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in Co. E, 9th VA Infantry.
