Hedgebeth, Near Holland, Va., Caught Under Falling Shelter and Dies of Slow Torture-Found at 9 O'Clock With His Body Still Warm. James M. Hedgebeth, a well known farmer living about two miles from Holland, Va., was working in a field near his home yesterday afternoon on an old shelter, which he was tearing down, and took shelter under the remaining part of it when a shower came up. The timbers gave way, caught the unfortunate man under them, and crushed him slowly to death. When at six o'clock he failed to come in, his family waited for an hour or two then began a search. Mr. Hedgebeth was found his body still warm, the torn up earth around showing how he had struggled to get out, and had died in great agony. He was forty-six years of age, and is survived by a widow and seven children. The community was greatly shocked at his tragic death. Note: Obituary for James Madison Hedgebeth of Holy Neck, Holland, Va. who died April 1910.
