Harrower Cemetery Location: In the village of Warminster, Virginia, on west side of Route #626. House is 50 yards from road near junction of Routes #626 and #604 and the graveyard is in the corner of the garden a few yards west of the mansion. Nelson County, Virginia DATE: 1828. OWNERS: Joseph C. Cabell and his descendants. DESCRIPTION: The graveyard is in the corner of the garden to the west of the mansion house under several tall cedar trees. It is well kept. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Marble slabs bear the following inscriptions: Joseph Cabell Born Dec. 28, 1778 Died Feb. 5, 1839 R. Parker Carter Died Oct. 11, 1839 Mrs. Lila Tucker Died Sept. 30, 1837 Mary Walker Cabell (no other inscription) Hic requiescat, Rulio varioque perfuncius efficio St. George Tucker. Bermudae, Naius. A civiate Virginiens pro filio adopians Libertate novanda Miles acer atque animoxus post libertatem receptam- Judex integer et srvanussimus acque apud collegium cul et mariae enipeger L L Professor Juris perius scriptis et commentarius notus doctus phisica leteresque varsatus denique poeta canavemis non inigratus in re publica, virgilanus studiosus que, in privata amore pracestabs et pracelorus in omni deneque negotio probusae fidelis in omni fortis atque constans. Nat 10 Jul 1752 Ab 10 Nov. 1828 Oct suae 76 (The foregoing Latin inscription is translated as follows) St. George Tucker Here, having completed an important and diversified career, rests St. George Tucker, born at Bermuda, adopted by the State of Virginia as a son; a soldier, brave and spirited in the attaining liberty; after liberty has been secured, justly honored among his colleagues; diligent in daily routine; an experienced professor of law, famous by reason of his writings and commentaries, learned in physics and in letters, specially as a poet not displeasing to the muses. In public affairs vigilent and zealous; in private friend- ship constant; noble in every undertaking; faithful in everything; brave and true. His sons, grandsons and wife have placed this marble as a chosen witness of his benevolence and ____; Mindful of his distinguished life, his virtues and honesty, deploring his death, although late.
