Field Cemetery Location: On Cemetery Street Madison County, Virginia DATE: 1843. OWNERS: Town of Martinsville, Virginia. DESCRIPTION: This cemetery has an iron fence around it and is full of shade trees of many different varieties as well as boxwood, shrubbery, lilacs, old roses and other flowers. It is well kept. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Inscriptions on Tombstones: Benjamin J. Jones Taylor Company 3 Va. Regt. Rev. War Born Feb. 5, 1752 Died Aug. 22, 1843 He giveth grace to the lonely. Ann B. Law Mother of Mrs. P.A. Meade Died Mar. 3rd, 1852 Father into thy hands I commend my spirit. G. R. Jones Born June 12th, 1785 Died July 21st, 1853 Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. Elizabeth Consort of Benjamin Jones Born Feb. 5th 1756 Died April 22nd, 1856 Her last days were spent rejoicing in hope. Patient in tribulation and continuing instant in prayer. Elder (Pastor) Alvis L. Moore Born April 11, 1845 Died May 3rd, 1920 A sinner saved by Grace if saved at all.
