Harrower Cemetery Location: Go 6.5 miles east of Shipman, Virginia, on Route #56, thence 1 mile northeast (left) on Route #626; thence .6 mile east (right) on Route #647; thence .5 mile south on private road leading to graveyard. Nelson County, Virginia DATE: Late 1700’s. No exact date can be found as to first grave. OWNERS: William Cabell took up land in 1724. Land granted in 1738. N. Cabell from his father in 1763 Oscar Rierson Commissioners to Paul Cabell 1871. Deed Book 18, page 528. (no records between 1763 and 1871 available) Charles Simpson, Trustees for G.E. Simpson. 1878, Deed Book 21 Page 175 and Deed Book 19, pages 161 and 162. Mrs. Emma Simpson Robinson and Miss Mary Simpson daughter of G.F. Simpson by will. Will Book N, page 478. Date 1906 owner to present date. (1937) DESCRIPTION: On top of a small mountain, in dense woods in an isolated spot, is this old burial ground. There are 10 graves with small markers but with no inscriptions. Others have no stones or markers. It is well known that many Cabells are buried here, but only the following grave has an inscription. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Cabells were pioneers in this section and they and their descendants have been numerous and prominent. G.F. Simpson, a late owner, served through the War Between the States with distinction. Thirza C. wife of S.D.
