Harrower Cemetery Location: 4 miles east of Shipman, Virginia, on Route #56; thence 1 mile southwest on Route #722, on west side of road, Graveyard is 50 yards in rear of house. Nelson County, Virginia DATE: 1858. OWNERS: Elisha Peters and his descendants. DESCRIPTION: The Peters family burial ground is located 50 yards in the rear of the house and was surrounded by a high rock wall. Most of this wall has fallen down. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Flat marble slab inscribed: In affectionate devotion to the private virtues of Edward W. Smith who departed this life November 5, 1858 in the 41st year of his age. Exemplary in all the relations of social life, he died leaving to his descendants the rich ______ in the posterity of an honored name. Tall marble stone, with roses carved over name, inscribed: In memory of our Mother, Tragetta E. Mitchell Departed this life June 20, 1860 in the 38th year of her age.
