Harrower Cemetery Location: 1 mile north of Shipman, Virginia, on Route #639; thence 1 mile west on Route #694, and the Purvis house is on the east side of the road at the foot of Naked Mountain, and this graveyard is just a few yards from the house to the west under six very large cedar and spruce trees. Nelson County, Virginia DATE: 1843. The date of the oldest grave is July 1, 1843. OWNERS: Purvis and descendants from 1800 to present date. (1937) DESCRIPTION: This old family graveyard is just a few yards from the Purvis house to the west under six very large cedar and spruce trees. There are no walls or fence around it, and there are a number of graves, but very few with stones or markers, and most of them have plain old field rock at the head and foot of the graves. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: To the memory of James Williams Purvis Was born Sept. 20, 1843 and departed this life July 1, 1843 Age 9 months, 9 days Erected to the memory of Henry I. Purvis who was born Jan. 20, 1849 And died July 15, 1850 Mrs. Bettie Evans Died 1860 In memory of Amanda S. Gregory wife of A. E. Jenkins Born June 20, 1823 Died April 23, 1861 Age 40 years, 10 months 9 days Mary S. Daughter of G. and V.C. Graves Born Aug. 17, 1858 Died June 15, 1852 Edward L. Purvis Born July 4, 1806 Died April 30, 1887 and Mary A.
