Thacker Cemetery Location: 4 miles southwest of Norwood, Virginia, direct Route. Take Route #655 at Norwood, go 4.5 miles west to intersection of Route #722, go south on this route 2 miles to a small cottage on the road side, then go 1 mile northwest on farm road. Place is near the foot of mountain. Nelson County, Virginia DATE: About 1810. OWNERS: Mr. Taliaferro purchased this place in the year 1810 from James and Nancy Loving, for the sum of ninety pounds current money. Mr. Mays --- to 1936, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: There seems to have been four houses on this place, built very close together, two of which nothing remains but the chimneys. The other two, which are of log construction are very much tumbled down. One of these buildings has four rooms, being two stories high. The other is so far gone it cannot be said how many rooms were in it. All the chimneys are of rock, some of which seem to have been cut as the shape is so perfect. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: There are two burial grounds on this place, one to the northeast of buildings in oak trees; the other to northwest in thick pines. One of these has about 14 or 15 graves, none of which have any markers except rocks. The other has 10 graves, 4 of which have engraved stones as follows: In Memory of Richard Layfayette son of Eliza C. & R.L. Taliaferro Born November the 3rd 1795 Died November 6th 1831 In memory of John Melville son of J.F. & A.M.
