Harrower Cemetery Location: 1.5 miles southwest of Wingina, Virginia, on Route #647; House on hill on west side of road and .1 mile distant and graveyard short distance in rear of house. Nelson County, Virginia DATE: 1798. OWNERS: Colonel William Cabell and his descendants. DESCRIPTION: In the rear of the house, just outside the yard is the old Cabell burial ground. It is in a grove of cedar and pine trees with an iron fence enclosing it. There are about thirty graves but only a few have tombstones. Honeysuckle vines have covered the fence and most of the graves. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following graves are marked: Elizabeth Cabell died November 5, 1801 Colonel William Cabell died March 23, 1798 Mrs. William Cabell died March 1812 Edward Cabell died March 3, 1869 Eliza Calloway Cabell Born August 17, 1857 Died Oct. 26, 1862 Mayo Cabell July 26, 1860 Dec. 2, 1861 In memory of Robert Brown Born March 9, 1820 Died June 8, 1880 and his wife Margaret Brown Born Sept. 27, 1826 Died August 29, 1877 SOURCES OF INFORMATION: Tombstone Inscriptions Visit by worker. ___________________________________________________________________ Copyright.
