Whitehead was once in a boundary of land known as “Rose Isle”, which tract was granted to Robert Rose, who was born in Scotland in 1704. This land was granted to him sometime between 1735 and 1748, and embraced a scope of several thousand acres lying in Amherst and Nelson Counties. The earliest records obtainable show that the portion owned by Mr. Whitehead was purchased by William H. Morgan from William Morgan and wife in 1823, for the sum of $23,085.00, and was then a boundary of two thousand three hundred and eighty acres. It was purchased again in 1837 by George Jones from Wm. H. Morgan but was only six hundred and one and a half acres lying partly in Amherst and partly in Nelson County. Later the property went into the hands of a family of Witt’s, but no record can be found of the date of this purchase, nor the one made by Mr. Whitehead. The place now contains only one hundred and eighty acres. A.R. Whitehead --- to 1936, present owner.
