HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Hawse N. Coleman, I, found a large flat rock, about 7 feet long and nearly 3 feet wide, shaped somewhat like an Indian arrow head. He had this stone put on an ox-cart and hauled to the present site of the graveyard, and his request was that after his death he should be buried at that place and the rock put over his grave. He died in 1840 and his request was granted. There are several other graves, but only the following have inscriptions on tall monuments: Sacred to the memory of Dr. Hawse N. Coleman Departed this life July 21, 1877 In the 52nd year of his age I am the resurrection and the life. He that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. In memory of Mary wife of John W. Harris Born October 18, 1824 Oh, Stranger, spare this spot, For here lies my mother.
