DEED: Edmund J. Campbell Deed of Trust SOURCE: Nelson County Deed Book 15, Page 415 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray -------------------------------------------------------- This Deed made and entered into this 1st day of July 1859 between Edmund J. Campbell of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia of the first part, Robert Whitehead of said County and State of the second part, and McAlexander and Patterson of said County and State of the third part, witnesseth that whereas the said Edmund J. Campbell stands justly indebted to the McAlexander and Paterson in the sum of one hundred and fifty eight dollars and fifty cents due by bond with interest from 1st January 1859 also an open account for the sum of fifty dollars due 1st of July 1859, both of which said debts the said Edmund J. Campbell is willing and desirous to secure, now this Indenture witnesseth, that for and in consideration of the sum of ten dollars of lawful money of Virginia, in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledge, he the said Edmund J. Campbell hath given, granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell and delivery unto the said Robert Whitehead, his heirs and assigns in trust the following property to wit: one white mare and her future increase, two cows and increase, household and kitchen furniture, plantation tools, growing crop of tobacco, also all the right, title, and interest both at sale and equity which the said Edmund J. Campbell has or may have in the trust and sale, both real and personal held for life by Francis Campbell and Nancy Campbell, his father and mother, subject to the payment of the debts as aforesaid on the 1st day of July 1860 and should the said Edmund J. Campbell fail to pay and satisfy the debts as before mentioned on the said 1st day of July 1860 with the legal interest thereon, then it shall be lawful for the said Robert Whitehead, as the request of the said McAlexander and Patterson, or either of them, expose the property and interest as aforesaid at public sale for cash in front of the public style at Nelson Court House on some public day and out of the money arising from the sale in the first place to pay all reasonable charges attending the sale, then the debts aforesaid, and the legal interest thereon, and the balance if any to the said Edmund J. Campbell or his legal representatives. Witness the following signatures and seals. Edmund J.
