DEED OF LOAN: Benjamin Camden to Ansel Mays, 1842 SOURCE: Nelson County Deed Book 10, Page 66 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray ----------------------------------------------------------- Know all men by these presents that I, Benjamin Camden, for and in consideration of the friendship and well wishes which I bear to Ansel Mays of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia, as well for the further consideration of one dollar of lawful money to be in hand paid by the said Ansel Mays at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have loaned and by these presents do hereby loan unto the aid Ansel Mays the following property to wit: one gray mare and one cow and one calf, one bed bedstead, and one plow and one gun to the use only of the said Ansel Mays, but to be under the control and demand at my discretion, whenever I may think proper to take the property aforesaid in my own possession free from the demands or claim or claims of every other person or persons whatsoever, only the use of said property by loan to the said Ansel Mays and reserving to myself the right and title of said property, and to be subject to my control and demand whenever I think proper to demand it. As witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals, this 6th day of May 1842. Ligon, Justices of the Peace in the aforesaid County and acknowledged his signature to be within Deed of Loan to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the same to the clerk of the County Court of Nelson, in order to have it recorded. This Deed of Loan was this day returned unto said Court duly certified by two Justices of the Peace of this County, and ordered to be recorded.
