DEED OF TRUST: Edmund J. Campbell, 1860 SOURCE: Nelson Co., VA Deed Book 16, Page 39 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray ---------------------------------------------------------- This deed made this (no entry) day of October 1860 between Edmund J. Campbell of the first part, Sylvanus Meeks of the second part, and McAlexander and Patterson of the third part, all of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia, witnesseth that whereas the said Edmund J. Campbell stands justly indebted to said McAlexander and Patterson in the further sum of fifty one dollars and twenty one cents due by bond bearing interest from the 15th day of May 1860 which said debt with the legal interest thereon accruing the said Edmund J. Campbell is willing and desirous to secure now this Indenture. Witnesseth that they for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar of lawful money of Virginia in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, he the said Edmund J. Campbell hath granted unto the said Sylvanus Meeks, his heirs, in trust the following property to wit: One white mare and her future increase, two cows and future increase, household and kitchen furniture, plantation utensils, crop of tobacco hanging in the house, also all my right, title, and interest in the undivided interest real and personal estate held for life by Nancy Campbell, my mother, both at fair and equity subject to the payment of the debt as aforesaid on the first day of January 1861 and should the said Edmund J. Campbell fail to pay and satisfy the aforesaid with said first day of January 1861 with the legal interest thereon accruing then and in that case it shall be lawful for the said Sylvanus Meeks at the request of said McAlexander and Patterson or either of them, sell to the highest bidder for cash at the residence of the said Edmund J. Campbell, first given ten days notice of the time and place of sale and out of the proceeds money arising from the sale in the first place to pay all reasonable charges attending the execution of this indenture, then the debts as before recited with the legal interest thereon, and the balance (if any) to the said Edmund J.
