Deed: Benjamin Coffey to His Wife, 1849 Source: Nelson Co., VA Deed Bk 14, Pg 416 Contributor: Wayne Coffey --------------------------------------------------- Know all men by these presents that I Benjamin Coffey of the County of Nelson & state of Virginia for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear to my wife Candis Coffey and her children as well as for the further consideration of one dollar of lawful money of this commonwealth to me in hand paid by the said Candis Coffey at and before the sealing & delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto my said wife Candis Coffey and her children together with those which she now has and those which she may hereafter may have all the right title and Interest both at law & equity which I have or at any time may hereafter may have in the slaves and other perishable property left by the will of Peter C Jacobs Decd to Nancy Coffey during her natural life & then at her Death to be divided between her children in which my wife Candis is one of the children of the Decd Nancy Coffey to have and to hold unto the said Candis Coffey & her children their heirs executors and administrators and assigns forever and I the said Benjamin Coffey for myself my heirs executors administrators and assigns will forever warrant & defend the right & title of the property afforesaid free from the claim & demand of all and every other person or persons whatsoever only to the wife of the said Benjamin Coffey & his children as afforesaid now & forever in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 23rd day of November 1849. Benjamin Coffey (SEAL) Candis Coffey (SEAL) Nelson County to wit: We Robert H Anderson and Floyd L Whitehead Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that Benjamin Coffey and Candis Coffey parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 23rd day of November 1849 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to Certify said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Nelson County in order that the same may be recorded.
