DEED OF TRUST: Harding D. Campbell, 1863 SOURCE: Nelson Co., VA Deed Book 16, Page 218 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray ------------------------------------------------------------ This Indenture made and entered into this 19th day of August 1863 between Harding D. Campbell of the first part of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia, William Wright of the County of Amherst and said State of the second part, and Jacob M. Woodson of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia of the third part. Whereas the said H. D. Campbell stands justly indebted to the said J. M. Woodson in the sum of six hundred and fifty eight dollars and 90 cents due by bond dated the 10th day of August 1863 which debt with its legal interest thereon accruing the said H. D. Campbell is willing and desirous to secure. Now this Indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar lawful money of the State of Virginia in hand paid to the said Harding D. Campbell by the said William Wright at and before the insealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby fully acknowledged , he the said H. D. Campbell hath given, granted, bargained, sold, aliened, enfeoffed, and confirmed and do by these presents presents give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release and confirm to the said William Wright a certain lot of land and house and all other appurtenances belonging to said lot lying and being in the County of Nelson, State of Virginia, on the waters of Piney River adjoining the lot and land of said Woodson on the West, and Joseph Fulcher on the East. Said lot of land contains one acre, more or less by estimate. To have and to hold said land and appurtenances hereby conveyed to the said William Wright the right of the before mentioned loot of land and appurtenances and he will forever defend against all persons whomsoever and in case default be made in the payment of the same debt then in that case when called on by said Woodson the said Wright is empowered to advertise said lot of land for sale to the highest bidder for cash by giving at least thirty days notice by sitting up at six advertisements at the most public places in the surrounding County of the time and place of such sale. After such sale first discharge the before mentioned debt with legal interest and for all other costs attending the recording of this instrument. All the surplus, if any remains to be paid over to the said H. D. Campbell or his legal representative. In witness our hands and seals the day and date first mentioned. Teste: H. D.
