Coffey, 1875 Source: Contributor: Ronnie Fitzgerald ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Nelson County Courthouse, Lovingston, VA This deed made this 5th day of November, 1875, between Joseph C. Coffey and Nancy ______, his wife, of the first part and Moses Fitzgerald of the second part, all of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty dollars debt? in hand paid, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, they, the said Joseph C. Coffey and Nancy, his wife, doth grant unto the said Moses Fitzgerald one-third interest in a tract of land of one hundred and twenty acres. Known as the Phillips tract of land lying on the North side of Tye River on the Wallow Hole Mountain adjoining the lands of estate of Jesse D. Hatter and Estate of William B. Coffey and others. To have and to hold, use and enjoy to the only use and behoof of him, the said Moses Fitzgerald and his heirs, forever free from the claim and demand of all persons whatsoever . And the said Joseph C. Coffey and Nancy _____, his wife, covenant to and with the said Moses Fitzgerald to warrant generally the land aforesaid. Witness the following seals and signatures. Joseph C. Coffey Nannie?? J. Coffey State of Virginia. Nelson County to with I Charles N. Patteson a Notary Public for the County of Nelson in the State aforesaid do certify that Nancy? Coffey, the wife of Joseph C. Coffey, where name is signed to the within deed bearing date on the 5th day of November, 1875 personally appeared before me in my County and State aforesaid, and being examined by me privity and apart from her said husband, and having the deed of the aforesaid fully explained to her, acknowledged yet the same to be her act and deed and that she did not wish to retract it, and at the same time and place personally appeared before me Joseph C. Coffey, another party thereto and acknowledged the same to be this act and deed. Given under my hand this 11th day of November, 1875. Chas. N.
