DEED AND PLAT: Paulina Harvey to Mays Children SOURCE: Nelson Co., VA Deed Book 16, Page 219 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray ---------------------------------------------------------- This deed made this twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight between Paulina Harvey of the one part and Richard, Ellen, William, Thomas, Mary, Elizabeth, James, Edmund, and Joseph Sylvanus Mays children of my deceased daughter Mary Mays of the second part, witnesseth that in the exercise of a discretion conferred upon me by the last will and testament of William Harvey, deceased, to distribute my portion of his estate whenever I should so elect, and further in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have for my said grand children, doth give, grant, and convey unto them parties of the second part, a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the County of Nelson on the waters of Black Creek being that part of the estate of William Harvey, deceased, allotted to Mays children by George W. Carter and John J. Stevens, Commissioners selected by the legatees to appraise and make partition of the estate of William Harvey, deceased, containing by plot thereto annexed seventy two 33/160 acres and the said Paulina covenants that she will warrant generally the title to the land hereby above conveyed. Witness the following signature and seal. Paulina Harvey [seal] Nelson County to wit: I, William J. Dillard, a Justice of the Peace for the County aforesaid do certify that Paulina Harvey whose name is signed to the foregoing deed bearing date on the 20th day of October 1858 has acknowledged the same before me in my County aforesaid. Given under my hand this 22nd day of August 1863. William J. Dillard, JP Nelson County SS: This is a plat of seventy two acres and thirty three square poles of land in said County lying on the waters of Black Creek, it being that part of the William Harvey, deceased, allotted to James Mays by George W. Carter and John J. Stevens, Commissioners appointed by the legatees of William Harvey, deceased, to appraise and divide the said estate. Surveyed the 20th day of October 1858.
