DEED: Lewis and Lucy (Campbell) Mays, Sarah Mays to Robert Mays SOURCE: Nelson Co., VA Deed Book 1, Page 269 CONTRIBUTOR: Valerie Burd ------------------------------------------------------------------ (Lewis and Robert are sons of Joseph and Sarah Mays) This Indenture made this twentieth day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Ten, between Lewis Mays and Lucy his wife, and Sarah Mays, relic and Widow of Joseph Mays, decd., in the County of Nelson of the one part and Robert Mays of the said County of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Lewis Mays and Lucy his wife and Sarah Mays for and in consideration of one Negro Boy named Anderson sold and delivered by the said Robert Mays to the said Lewis Mays, hath granted, bargained and sold and by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert Mays all the interest right and title of the said Lewis Mays and Lucy his wife and Sarah Mays in and to one certain tract, parcel, or moiety of land lying and being in the County of Nelson, which entire tract of land contains Three hundred and eighty-five acres, and was given by Joseph Mays decd in his last will and testament to the said Sarah Mays his wife during her natural life and after her decease, the said entire tract of Land was to be possessed by his two sons Moses Mays and Lewis Mays as joint heirs of said Land as from the said Will, will now fully appear and is of record in the County Court Clerk's office of Amherst County, (except a small part of said entire tract or parcel of Land containing seven acres being sold to Spencer and Edmunds). To have and to hold the said tract parcel or moiety of Land with its appurtenances which the said Lewis Mays may be entitled to from the Will aforesaid, (except the exception aforesaid) to him the said Robert Mays and his Heirs and assigns forever and the said Lewis Mays and Lucy his wife and the said Sarah Mays doth for themselves their Heirs Executors and Administrators Warrant and will forever defend the right Interest and title of the tract, parcel, or moiety of Land (except as aforesaid) so the said Robert Mays and his Heirs and Assigns from all claims and demands of all persons whatever, In Witnesseth whereof the said Lewis Mays and Lucy his Wife and the said Sarah Mays hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the date and year above written. ~ Lewis Mays Lucy Mays, her mark Sarah Mays, her mark Signed sealed and delivered In presence of Reuben Bates Cornelias Nevil Peter Campbell The Commonwealth of Virginia, to William H Diggesand Joseph Loving Gentlemen Justices of nelson County Greeting: Whereas Lewis Mays and Lucy his Wife and Sarah Mays by this certain Indenture of bargain and sale bearing date the 20th day of Oct. 1810 have sold and conveyed unto Robert Mays one Moiety of a certain tract of Land given by Jos.
