DEED: William D. Mays, 1862 SOURCE: Nelson Co., VA Deed Book 16, Page 122 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray ------------------------------------------------------------ This deed made this 14th day of April in the year 1862 between William D. Mays of the first part and James W. Mays of the second part, and Catharine E. Mays, the wife, and Ellen R., William T., Mary E., James E., Joseph S., and Robert S. Mays, the children of said James W. Mays of the third part, witnesseth that the said William D. Mays for and in consideration of the natural affection which he bears to the parties of the third part, and the further consideration of the sum of five dollars in hand paid by the said James W. Mays at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said William D. Mays has granted, bargained, sold and delivered and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell and deliver to him the said James W. Mays, his executors, administrators, and assigns the following property, to wit: one dun mare and colt, one other dun mare, one clock, one two horse wagon, one bureau, one small table, one trundle bed, one looking glass, eleven head of hogs, six shoats, one large red cow, one small yearling, and one pale red cow (and the increase thereof, being the property purchased by the said William D. Mays at a Sheriff's sale of the property of said James W. Mays made on the 22nd and 28th days of May 1860). In trust nevertheless, that the said James W. Mays who is hereby appointed trustee for the purpose shall hold and use the said property with the future increase thereof, for the sole and separate use and benefit of the said parties of the third part, and any and all other children of the said James W. Mays born unto him in wedlock, and for no other purpose whatsoever. And the said William D. Mays covenants to warrant generally the title to the property hereby conveyed to the said James W. Mays, Trustee, as aforesaid, for the use and benefit as aforesaid. Witness the following signatures and seals. William D. Mays [seal] James W.
