Source: Nelson County, VA Deed Bk 16, Pg 1. - Painter/Ramsey Contributor: Shirley Houk This deed made the seventh day of September in the year eighteen hundred and sixty, between Jacob H. Painter of the one part, Henry Painter of the second part, and Mary Jane Ramsey of the third part. Whereas a marriage is shortly to be had and solemnized between the said Jacob H Painter and the said Mary Jane Ramsey, and the said Jacob Painter is possessed of certain personal estate, to wit five head of horses, to wit, a bay mare and colt, two sorrel mares and one sorrel horse - five head cattle, a stock of sheep and hogs, one two horse wagon - farming utensils, and household and kitchen furniture, all of which the said Jacob Painter with the consent of the said Mary Jane Ramsey, and in consideration of her finances(?) and agreement to enter into said marriage relation with the said Jacob H Painter has consented to transfer to the said Henry Painter, in trust for the separate and proper use and behoof (?) of the said Mary Jane Ramsey. Now therefore this deed witnesseth that in consideration of the premises, and of one dollar in hand paid the said Jacob Painter doth grant unto the said Henry Painter, all the property and effects above mentioned and its future increase and profits to hold the same to him the said Henry Painter, and his executors and administrators, ______ the special trusts and for the uses and purposes following to wit. That from and after the solemnization of the said marriage, and during the coverture(?) the said Henry Painter shall permit the said Mary Jane to use, hold, and enjoy the said property for her separate maintenance and support and the support maintenance and education of the issue of said marriage if any and in default of said issue at the death of the said Mary Jane, said property to be delivered to the said Jacob Painter should he survive the said Mary Jane and if not, then to the brothers and sisters of the said Jacob Painter or their legal representatives - said property not to be bound for any debt contracted by the said Mary Jane except with the written consent and approbation of the said trustee.
