This deed made this 4th day of January 1867 between William H. Roberts 
and Haney Ann his wife and Nancy R. Coffey all of the County of Nelson 
and State of Virginia witnesseth that for and consideration of the sum 
of three thousand dollars in hand paid by the said Nancy R. Coffey the 
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged - that the said William H. Roberts 
and Haney Ann his wife doth and hand unto the said Nancy R. Coffey a 
certain tract of land lying and being in the County of Nelson adjoining 
the lands of Joseph H. Shelton, Patrick C. Massie and others and is the 
same land purchased by said William H. Roberts of Joshua M Ramsey 
containing one hundred forty nine acres more or less and the said 
William H Roberts and Haney Ann his wife covenants to and with the 
said Nancy R Coffey to warrant generally the land aforesaid witnesseth 
the following seals and signatures.

Nelson County to wit:
    We Charles N Patterson and Joseph H Shelton Trustees of the place 
and for the County and State aforesaid do hereby certify that Henry Ann 
Roberts the wife of William H Roberts a party to whose named is signed 
to the foregoing deed hereto annexed bearing date on the 4th day of 
January 1867 personally appeared before us in our County and State 
aforesaid and being examined by we separately and apart from her said 
husband and having the deed fully explained to her acknowledged the 
same and that she did not wish to retract it.  Given under our hands 
this 4th day of January 1867.

Nelson County to wit:
    I Charles N Patterson a justice of the peace for said County and 
State do certify that William H Roberts whose name is signed to the 
foregoing deed hereto annexed ____ bearing date January 4th 1867 
personally appeared before me in my County and State - aforesaid and 
acknowledged the same given under my hand this 4th day of January 1867.

At a court held for Nelson County January the 25th 1867.
    This Deed for land was this day presented in said court and being 
duly certified is ordered to be recorded.
