Deed: Coffey, Thompson Source: Nelson County VA Deed Bk 16, Pg 395 & 396 Contributor: Shirley Houk ------------------------------------------------- This deed made this 17 day of July 1866 by and between John Thompson Jr of Amherst County, Va, of the one part and Henry B Coffey of Nelson County, Va of the other part witnesseth - that the said Thompson for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars in full of all purchase money hath & doth hereby grant unto the said Henry B Coffey a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the said county of Nelson containing two hundred and four acres, bounded and adjoining as will appear by a Survey and plat thereof made by William A. Hill surveyor of Nelson bearing date this 14th May 1865 and hereto annexed as a part of this deed. It being a portion of a large mountain survey in __?__ County called the McLains Survey but patented to W. C. Nicholas & purchased by the said Thompson from said Nicholas trustee in a deed of trust made to secure the Bank W. States whose _?_ the said Thompson became. The said Thompson warrants title to the said Henry B. Coffey specially & no otherwise. Witnesseth the following signature & seal. (50 cent stamp annexed) John Thompson Jr. {seal} State of Virginia Amherst County Court I Taylor Berry a notary public in and for the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that John Thompson Jr who hath signed the foregoing deed bearing date of the 17th day of July 1866, appeared before me within my County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deeds. Below plat: Nelson County This is a plat of two hundred and four acres of land in said County lying on the waters of Pennels Branch, a Branch of the North Fork of Tye River it being a part of the 476 3/2 acres Tract purchased by Washington Coffey of John Thompson Jr and bounded as follows viz: Beginning at a Hickory on the west side of Pannels Branch corner to Washington Coffey thence new lines down the creek as it meanders 252 po. to Blazer Bushes in Henry B Coffey’s line, thence with said Coffeys lines N54° E 27 po. to Blazer Bushes where Pointers were called for. N79° E 90 po. Pointers corner to Floyd L. Whitehead thence with said Whitehead’s lines N 59½° E 20 po. to Poplar 575¾ E 82 po. Chestnut Oak corner to Washington Coffey, thence with said Coffey’s line W 27° E 27 po. Pointers N 44½° E 90 po. Pointers N 64° W 133 po. Pointers on a Ridge S 57½° W 12 7/10 po. on the west side of a large rock N 13½° W 34 po. Pointers N 70½° W 60 po. to the beginning. Surveyed the 14th day of May 1865. By W. A.
