This deed made this 17th July 1863 by and between John Thompson Jr of 
Amherst County Virginia of the one part and Washington Coffey of Nelson 
County Virginia of the other part.  Witnesseth that the said John Thompson Jr 
for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars which is in full of all 
purchase money hath and doth hereby grant unto the said Washington Coffey a 
certain tract or parcel of land lying in Nelson County Virginia containing 
272¾ acres lying and adjoining, as will appear by a plat and survey of the 
same, made by W. A. Hill Surveyor of Nelson County date the 9th May 1865 
and hereto annexed as a part of this deed.  It being a part of a large survey 
of mountain land called McLanes but patented to W. C. Nicholas and purchased 
by the said Thompson from Nicholas trustees in a deed made to secure a debt 
to the Bank of the United States, whose __?__ the said Thompson became.
    The said John Thompson Jr warrants title to the said Coffey specially 
and not otherwise.

    I Taylor Berry a Notary Public in and for the county aforesaid, do 
hereby certify that John Thompson Jr who hath signed the foregoing deed 
bearing the date the 17 July 1863, this day appeared before me in my county 
aforesaid and State of Virginia and acknowledged the same to be his act and 
deed .  Given under my hand this 27th day of July 1866.

of land in said county lying on Pannels Branch, a Branch of the North Fork 
of Tye River it being a part of the 476¾  acres purchased of John Thompson Jr 
by Washington Coffey, and bounded as follows, viz: beginning at a Mahogany 
on a Branch, corner to John Demastus thence with said Demastus line N 88¼  
W. 84 po. Pointers on the east side of Pannels Branch thence down the same 
new lines, as it meanders 202 4/10 po. Hickory on the west side of the 
branch S 70½  __?__ 60 po. Pointers 57½ E 12 7/10 Pointers N 64° E 133 po. 
Pointers S 44½ W 9 po. Pointers S 27 W. 27 po. chest-oak corner in F. S. 
Whitehead’s line and with it S 75¾  E. 4 opo. Stake in a field corner to 
the Est. Joel Campbell deceased and with said Campbells lines N 27¾ 6.48 po. 
Pointers N. 76 E. 72 po.  Blazed Saplings N. 61½ ° E. 119 po.  Hickory in

   This Deed, with Plat accompanying it, was this day presented in said 
office, and being duly certified, and having 50 cents Internal Revenue tax 
annexed, is admitted to record.
