Deed: Thompson, Coffey, 1863 Source: Nelson County VA Deed Bk 16, Pg 521 & 522. Contributor: Shirley Houk --------------------------------------------------- This deed made this 17th July 1863 by and between John Thompson Jr of Amherst County Virginia of the one part and Washington Coffey of Nelson County Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John Thompson Jr for and in consideration of the sum of five dollars which is in full of all purchase money hath and doth hereby grant unto the said Washington Coffey a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Nelson County Virginia containing 272¾ acres lying and adjoining, as will appear by a plat and survey of the same, made by W. A. Hill Surveyor of Nelson County date the 9th May 1865 and hereto annexed as a part of this deed. It being a part of a large survey of mountain land called McLanes but patented to W. C. Nicholas and purchased by the said Thompson from Nicholas trustees in a deed made to secure a debt to the Bank of the United States, whose __?__ the said Thompson became. The said John Thompson Jr warrants title to the said Coffey specially and not otherwise. Pointers on the east side of Pannels Branch thence down the same new lines, as it meanders 202 4/10 po. Hickory on the west side of the branch S 70½ __?__ 60 po.
