Contributor: Shirley Houk --------------------------------------------- Article of agreement made and entered this twelfth 12th day of March 1866 by and between James Whitehead of the County of Nelson State of Virginia of the first part & Wm. H. Farrar of Augusta County State of Virginia of the second part to wit. The said James Whitehead has sold this day to W. H. Farrar ten acres of land containing Kaolin. Beginning at a stake on the road and running east of north to an apple tree being the east corner of said Whitehead’s land and from the apple tree to Peter Coffey’s line or such course as to make ten acres, bounded south by Mr. Campbell’s line & by Peter Coffers (sic) to Mr. Campbell’s line on the east side upon the following conditions. The said W. H. Farrar agrees to pay to said James Whitehead one hundred dollars in greenbacks down which is to be made gold . Five hundred dollars in gold the tenth day of April 1866. The ball (balance?) one day before __?__ is commenced on said land in gold & the said Farrar is to make all necessary fences on said ten acres purchases. The whole sum is to be Three Thousand dollars in gold for the said purchase of the ten acres & on the payment for the land a gold warranty deed is to be given by said Whitehead to said Farrar.
