DEED: Jesse Wright Deed of Gift, 1849 SOURCE: Nelson County Deed Book 12, Page 539 CONTRIBUTOR: Sylvia Ray -------------------------------------------------------- Know all men by these presents that I, Jesse Wright of the County of Nelson and State of Virginia, for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I bear to Nancy Wright, my daughter, of said County and State, as well as for the further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Nancy Wright at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given and granted, and these presents do give and grant unto the said Nancy Wright, her executors, administrators, and assigns, two Negro men namely, John about 34 years old, and James about 60 years old, one yoke of work oxen and cart, one sorrel mare, one rum stud colt, one shot gun, also all the stock of hogs and cattle I now possess. To have and to hold the above named property unto her the said Nancy Wright, her executors, administrators, and assigns forever, and the said Jesse Wright for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators, the said property above named, unto the said Nancy Wright, her heirs, executors, administrators and assigns, against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever, shall and will warrant and forever defend them by these presents. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this the 12th day of September 1849. Signed, sealed and delivered Jesse Wright {seal} in the presence of: Nelson County, to wit: We, Ro H. Anderson and Floyd L. Whitehead, Justices of the Peace in and for the said County do hereby certify that Jesse Wright a party to a deed hereunto annexed and dated the 12th day of September 1849, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed and desired us to certify the same to the Clerk of the County Court of Nelson, in order that the same may be recorded.
