Land Grant: Edmond Coffey, Grantee, 1800 (Amherst Co. now Nelson Co., VA) Source: Land Office Grants No. 45, 1799-1800, p. 384-385 (Reel 111) Contributor: Carol Vanderherchen --------------------------------------------------------------------------- James Monroe, Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, To all To whom these presents shall come Greeting know ye that by virtue of a Land Office Treasury Warrant number sixteen thousand four hundred and thirty-four, the fourteenth of May one thousand seven hundred and eighty-three, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Edmund Coffey, assignee of James Masters Junior who was assignee of Thomas Mitchell a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred acres by survey bearing date the fourth day of December one thousand seven hundred and ninety-five lying and being in the County of Amherst in the forks of Tye River and bounded as followeth to wit. Beginning in the fork of Tye river at three gums and two white oaks thence up the North fork of said river according to its meanders one hundred and eighteen poles to a gum corner of Edmund Coffey and with his line South forty six degrees West seventy-five poles to a poplar and North thirty-four degrees West forty four poles to pointers thence new lines North fifty-two degrees West forty-four poles to a black oak South seventy- three degrees West seventy poles to a red oak South forty-five degrees West eighty poles to a chesnut oak South seventy nine degrees East twenty poles to pointers South seventy-one degrees East twenty poles to a chesnut and South twenty-three degrees East twenty-six poles to a red oak on the bank of the South fork of said river thence down the same according to its meanders two hundred and six poles to the first station with its appurtenances To have and to hold the said land or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Edmund Coffey and his heirs forever in witness whereof the said James Monroe Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath here unto set his hand and caused this before seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the Fourteenth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and of the commonwealth the twenty-fourth James Monroe Delivered to Mr. D.
