Pension: Mildred Ware w/o Thomas Ware Contributor: Jerry Anderson State of Virginia County of Nelson On this 3rd day of July A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty three personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid Mildred Ware aged about 82 or 83 years who being first duly sworn according to law, doth on her oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the provision made by the act of Congress passed July 7,1838 an act granting half pay and pensions to certain widows, that she is the widow of Thomas Ware deceased who was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, and who was inscribed on the Pension list before his decease and drew a Pension of twenty six 66/100 Dollars Annually up to the 4th day of September 1851 in the County and State aforesaid and to which declaration she refers for proof of said services now on file in the Pension office at Washington. She further declares that she was married to the said Thomas Ware in the County of Buckingham & state of Virginia about the 15th of October and about the year 1787 and that her maiden name before her said marriage was Mildred Bryant, that her said husband the aforesaid Thomas Ware died the 26th December, 1851,, that she was not married to him prior to his leaving the service, but the marriage took place previous to the first of January Seventeen hundred and ninety four, being (?) at the time above stated, she further swears that she is now a widow and that she has never before made application for a Pension. Know all men by these presents that I Mildred Ware aforesaid do hereby Constitute and appoint John Whitlock to be my true and lawful attorney for me and in my name to demand and receive from the Secretary of the Interior of the United States all monies that may be found due me and said attorney is hereby fully authorized and empowered to Constitute and One or more Substitutes or attorneys under him for the Special purposes above expressed. Sworn to and subscribed before me the day and year above written and I hereby Certify that I believe the said Mildred Ware to be the widow of the aforesaid Thomas Ware and that she is of the age aforesaid stated, and I hereby Certify further that from Mrs Mildred Ware's bodily infirmity and extreme old age and moreover a long and rough road to the Courthouse, would think it would be imprudent to attempt to carry her there it being about twelve miles. State of Virginia County of Nelson On this 1st day of October, 1853 personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid James Napier aged 83 years to me well known and entitled to credit, a resident of the County and State aforesaid and made oath in due form of law, that he has been acquainted with Mildred Ware and her husband Thomas Ware deceased, for about fifty years previous to his death and can testify that they lived together as man & wife and were respected as such, and raised a large family of Children. Her maiden name before she married the said Thomas Ware was Mildred Bryant. She says further that Thomas Ware died the 26th December, 1851 at his own home in the above named County and State and that the aforesaid Thomas Ware drew a Pension of Twenty Six Dollars & 66 Cents Annually up to the time of his death.
