OBITUARY: WILLIE RAYMOND ALLEN, 1984 SOURCE: Daily News Leader, Staunton, VA (Unknown date) CONTRIBUTOR: Carol Harlow -------------------------------------------------------- STUARTS DRAFT -- Willie Raymond Allen, 69, of Rt. 1, Stuarts Draft, died at 6:48 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 16, 1984) in Waynesboro Community Hospital. He was born April 10, 1915 in Nelson County, a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Elvira (Hite) Allen. He worked in timber and sawmilling until his retirement in 1980 and was the founder and president of the Blue Ridge Bear and Coon Club. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy H. Allen, and one sister, Mabel A. Painter. Surviving are his wife, Maggie Fitzgerald Allen, of Stuarts Draft; four sons, Manley T. Allen, W. Everett Allen, Wesley E. Allen, and Roger C. Allen, all of Stuarts Draft; two daughters, Faye Darlene Humphries of Greenville, and Brenda Kay Wiles of Hermitage, Tenn.; two brothers, Odell C. and Saylor B. Allen, both of Stuarts Draft; one sister, Mrs. Carrie. A. Fitzgerald of Stuarts Draft; 10 grandchildren, Edward T. Allen, Robert L. Allen, Steven W. Allen, June A. Cline, Treva A. Pleasants, Wesley E. Allen Jr ., Wendolyn Eric Allen, James W. Humphries Jr., Amanda K. Humphries, and Lyndsay A. Wiles; one great-grandson, Jason E. Allen. Active pallbearers will be Butch Taylor, Sonney Taylor, Don Taylor, Bill Sensabaugh, Dale Allen, and Carl Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Merl Wall, Butch Lafoon, James Smith, Bill Reid, Floyd Brown, Herbie Evers Jr., and members of the Blue Ridge Bear and Coon Club. A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 1984 in the Calvary United Methodist Church by the Revs. Billy Morris, Roy Martin and Walter Sumerlin with burial in the church cemetery.
