OBITUARY: Saylor B. 'Snake' Allen, 1999 SOURCE: The Waynesboro News Virginian, April 9, 1999 -------------------------------------------------------- STUARTS DRAFT - Saylor Bernard "Snake" Allen, 86, of Stuarts Draft, died Wednesday (April 7,1999) at his residence. He was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Nelson County, the son of the late Grover Cleveland and Elvira Hite Allen. He was an avid bear hunter and spent much of his life in the Blue Ridge Mountains that he loved. He belonged to the Back Creek Hunt Club and was a charter member of the Blue Ridge Coon and Bear Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Fitzgerald. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Morris Allen; three daughters, Judy Truslow of Beech Grove, Joan Hartford of Charlottesville, and Jane Gunter of Waynesboro, three stepdaughters. Sue Biser of Steeles Tavern, Elaine Burch Of Waynesboro, and Gorgie Noland of Charlottesville; two stepsons, Robbie Morris of Lowesville and Neil Morris of the USMC Camp Lejuene N.C., seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and 12 stepgrandchildren. A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Stuarts Draft chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service by the Rev. Jerry Hopkins with burial to follow at Haines Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be sent to the AHC Hospice of the Shenandoah, P.O.
