Anderson, died August 31, 2002 Source: The News Leader, Monday, September 2, 2002 Contributor: Dennis Truslow -------------------------------------------------------- AFTON -- James Jeter Anderson Sr., Ph.D., of 9682 Batesville Road, died Saturday (Aug. 31, 2002) at the University of Virginia Medical Center. Mr. Anderson was born May 3, 1929, in Charlottesville to Jeter Hamilton Anderson and Edith Critzer Anderson Coffman. He was a senior scientist at Albright & Wilson America's. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Anderson Simmons, and a sister, Nettie Jane Anderson Hamric. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie M. Anderson; a son, James Jeter Anderson Jr.; a daughter, Jennifer Smith; and a sister, Fontaine Fox. A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hebron Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 this evening at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro. ------------- Richmond Times-Dispatch, September 2, 2002 ANDERSON Dr. James Jeter Anderson Sr., PhD., 73, of 9682 Batesville Road, Afton, and formerly of Richmond, died Saturday, August 31, 2002 at University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville. He was born May 3, 1929 in Charlottesville, a son of Jeter Hamilton Anderson and Edith Critzer Anderson Coffman. Dr. Anderson was a graduate of Rockfish Valley High School, and earned his PhD. from the University of Virginia. He was a senior scientist at Albright & Wilson America's, receiving 14 U.S. patents and foreign equivalents. He actively participated in Little League; Girl Scouts; church activities at Hebron Baptist Church, including the choir; politics; and the University of Virginia. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Anderson Simmons; and a sister, Nettie Jane Anderson Hamric. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie M. Anderson; a son and daughter-in-law, James Jeter "Jay" Jr. and Holly J. Anderson; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Anderson and Larry M. Smith; a sister and brother-in-law, Fontaine Anderson and George W. Fox Sr.; and six grandchildren, Brandon Simmons, Melissa Anderson, Morgan Anderson, Christopher Smith, Millicent Smith, and James Jeter "Chip" Anderson III. A service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hebron Baptist Church by the Revs. Jim Ailor, John Chafee, Whitney Critzer, and Marvin Kerby. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at McDow Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
