Lori Ann Briggs, 39, of Bowie, Md., and formerly of Shipman, (Nelson County), departed this life May 8, 2004, in the Doctors Community Hospital at Lanham, Md., after a brief and sudden illness. 
Born July 20, 1964, in Charlottesville, she was a daughter of Ann Martin Briggs of Shipman and the late Wayne Briggs. She was an executive secretary with the Verizon Phone Company of Alexandria. 
Besides her mother Ann Briggs, survivors are her children, Alexis N. Briggs and Maurice A. Briggs both of Bowie, Md.; three sisters, Samantha Briggs and Carol Worthy both of Lanham and Rhonda Anderson of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Jacob A. Briggs and Mark T. Briggs, both of Shipman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Bright Hope Baptist Church in Lovingston with the Rev. Theodore Payne officiating with interment in the Martin Family Cemetery near Lovingston. 
The family will receive friends following the service at Bright Hope Baptist Church. 
Arrangements are being handled by Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston (434) 263-4097.
