Obituary: Virginia G. Barker, 79, a resident of 1529 Harding Ave., Waynesboro, died Friday night (March 20, 1987) in her residence. She was born in Nelson County, Sept. 17, 1907, a daughter of Obidiah and Hattie Puckett Fitzgerald. Mrs. Barker was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Survivors included two sons, Charles F. Barker of New Hope and Robert Lee Barker of Crimora; one brother, James Fitzgerald of Waynesboro; seven grandchildren, five step grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Marlo Barker, on Aug. 17, 1978; one son, Russell M. Barker on Nov. 5, 1986; and six sisters and three brothers. A service was to be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home, with burial in Augusta Memorial Park. Active pallbearers were Jim Wright, Pete Fisher, Ralph Lawrence, Melvin Twitchell, Rex Via and Jessie Joyner. Honorary pallbearers were Carol Craig, Brenda Johnson, Betty Ham, Elsie Lawrence, Jimmy Johnson, Jim Coffey, Windom Fitzgerald, Wade Wills, Caskie Fitzgerald and John Dooms.
