Obituary: Arlene Mary Blackwell, 2003 Source: The Daily Progress, April 30, 2003 Contributor: Dennis Truslow ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arlene Mary "Irene" Blackwell, 99, of Afton, (Nelson County), but previously lived in Boonesville, died Monday evening April 28, 2003. She was married to Robert William "Bob" Roston of Boonesville, Va., and Ambrose Blackwell of Whitehall, Va. She was the daughter of the late Arthur David Painter and Texianna Campbell Painter. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Josie P. Campbell and Lilly Nuckoles; one brother, John D. Painter; one daughter, Bonnie Lou Roston; two stepsons, James Rosson and Jesse Rosson; one grandson, Cecil Sites Jr. She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. She was a loving mother, grand- mother and great-grandmother. She was loved by all that knew her. She is survived by two sisters, Willie Ruth Rowe and Rosie Rowe of Staunton; one son, Robert "David" Rosson of Afton; four daughters, Frances Sites of Charlottes- ville, Ruth Ward of Crozet, Mary Smith Bates of Farmville and Rosie Roston of Afton; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three step-great- grandchildren; and numerous other friends and family. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Prize Hill Church with Dr. Roy S. Thomas, III, officiating. Interment will follow in Prize Hill Cemetery. The family will receive from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the Teague Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Crozet Baptist Church Building Fund, 5804 St. George Avenue, Crozet, Va. 22932 or the Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.
