Bowling (Smokey) Grover Fate Bowling (Smokey), 81, of Arrington, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Amherst County, May 14, 1922, he was a son of the late William Robert and Ollie Mae Coffey Bowling. He attended Kingswood Baptist Church and was a retired, self-employed contractor. Survivors include his beloved companion of 23 years, Frances Floyd; three sons, Grover F. Bowling Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., Junior F. Bowling and his fiancé, Dale Dietzel of Dumfries, and Roger S. Bowling and his wife, Bea, of Madison Heights; three daughters, Patricia A. Hill and her husband, John, of Shipman, Diane Deal and her husband, David of Midland, and Barbara J. Bowling and her husband, Jimmy, of Nokesville; three step-daughters, Betty Cooper and her husband, Steve, of Rustburg, Alice Coleman and her husband, Wayne, of Arrington, and Patricia Morcom and her husband, Bruce, of Monroe; two brothers, Hoover Bowling and wife, Becky, and Ranger Bowling and his wife, Doris, all of Spottsylvania; one sister, Eleanor Hartsook and her husband, Harlan of Crawley, W.Va.; 23 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children’s mother, Hallie C. Johnson; two sons, Lonnie Dale Bowling and infant, James Grover Bowling; four brothers, Berry, Julian, Finley and William T. Bowling; and two sisters, Lacy Wheeler and Arlene Howard. Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, by the Rev. Carroll Martin Jr., with burial in Jonesboro Cemetery.
