OBITUARY: Elbert Calvin Bradley, 1996 SOURCE: unknown newspaper CONTRIBUTOR: Carol Harlow ------------------------------------------------------ Elbert Calvin Bradley, 93, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996, at Briarwood Nursing Home in Amherst. His wife of 65years was the late Mary Figgers Bradley. Born Nov. 1, 1903, in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Jerry Pamplin and Ella Ramsey Bradley. He retired from J.P.Bradley & Sons Sawmill of which he was an owner and partner. He served briefly in the military at Fort Houston during the end of World War I. He was a member and deacon of Midway Baptist Church. He is survived by three daughters, Arlene Mays of Amberst, Bethel Massie of Stuart and Edith Bradley Wilkens of Amherst; 13 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Mason L. Bradley and T. Worth Bradley, both of Amherst, and a sister, Loree Bradley Mays of Amherst. He was preceded in death by a brother, J. Edison Bradley, and a sister, Illa Vernon Bradley. A funeral service was held at Midway Baptist Church with the Rev. Hugh Bumgarner officiating, assisted by the Rev. R.B. Baker. Interment was at Oronoco Church of the Brethren Cemetery. The family received friends at Piney River Funeral Home and other times at the home of Arlene and Marshall Mays. The family suggests that memorials in the form of contributions be made to Midway Baptist Church or Pedlar Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
